The November/December issue of Departures magazine features a lengthy preview of the reopening of the 122 Community Arts Center in Manhattan’s East Village. The renovation and expansion of the arts center, lead by Partner Maitland Jones and Principal Ameet Hiremath, includes theaters, studios, galleries, offices, and community spaces. Writer Sasha Frere-Jones quotes the poet Eileen Myles on the importance of the building: “the work made and performed there probably remains in the blood and the bones of the building. Art buildings hold ghosts, good ghosts, and we need them to keep building new times.” The 122 Community Arts Center will reopen in early 2018.
