Dickinson College Breaks Ground on LEED Platinum Residence Hall by Deborah Berke Partners
March 2, 2017
Partner Maitland Jones and Project Lead Rhoda Kennedy were on hand as Dickinson College, a highly selective liberal arts school in Carlisle, PA, broke ground on its first new residence hall in 40 years. The project, which will house 129 students, was designed by Deborah Berke Partners with a goal of LEED Platinum certification. The building’s north side is faced in Dickinson limestone to relate to the historic structures on campus, including a major building by Benjamin Latrobe. The south side, which faces a mixed residential and college neighborhood, has a more open and transparent façade of zinc and glass. An E-shaped plan allows natural light into all the rooms and corridors and creates a pair of outdoor courtyards for informal gathering. Storm water is retained on site through a series of native plant raingardens designed by landscape architects Andropogon. Learn more here.
