Surface Magazine explores Buffalo and the Hotel Henry

“Buffalo’s dynamic architectural past is fueling its transformation,” declares the June/July issue of Surface Magazine. The Richardson Olmsted Campus, a former asylum designed by H.H. Richardson with grounds by Frederick Law Olmsted, in an important part of that heritage. We recently completed the Hotel Henry, a boutique hotel and conference center, as the first phase of the redevelopment of this National Historic Landmark. The design of the hotel, led by Partner Deborah Berke and Senior Principal Stephen Brockman, celebrates Richardson’s vast structure. In developing the design, Brockman discovered how much the building means to the people of Buffalo. “In the early stages, we did community meetings, and it filled an auditorium. I knew then that it was more than just a beautiful piece of architecture: There’s a monumental attachment to it,” he told Surface. Read more here.
