Congratulations to everyone at Performance Space New York! Tonight they kick-off the Coil Festival, the first significant performance event at the 122 Community Arts Center in the East Village. Designed by Deborah Berke Partners, the performing and visual arts facility and community center is the home for Performance Space New York, Mabou Mines, Painting Space 122, and the Alliance for Positive Change. Lead by Partners Deborah Berke and Maitland Jones and Principal Ameet Hiremath, the project includes theaters, studios, galleries, and social service and community spaces. The new circulation spine and the rooftop theater are both clad in a shimmering metal scrim. When complete, site specific artworks by Monika Goetz will animate the building at night.
