UNCSA Film School — a concept design for physical and digital pursuits

Winston-Salem, NC
30,000 square feet
2015
Type: Academic / Arts
Theme: Making & Learning

Our concept design of a two-story building for the University of North Carolina School of the Arts Film Production Design in Winston-Salem creates a home for their film production and design studios.

Film production design is at once both a physical and digital pursuit. We faced the building with an evocative and functional arcade, evocative of the digital “wireframe,” and similarly functional as a stage-set scaffolding for outdoor sets and screenings. Interior rooms, at a variety of sizes and variously-equipped, provide staging and filming spaces, along with a mix of technical classrooms and workshops.
