21c Museum Hotel Nashville
120,000 square feet
Celebrating Nashville’s authentic culture and sense of place, the newest edition of the 21c Museum Hotels transforms a former hardware store and warehouse into a 21st century boutique hotel and destination restaurant. Our design highlights the history of the Gray & Dudley Hardware Company building while creating a contemporary experience that reflects the vibrancy of Nashville today.
A new entrance on Second Avenue leads to the public areas, where concrete floors and exposed metal beams and columns reflect the building’s industrial heritage. These are combined with rich upholstery, a sophisticated color palette, and metal accents, creating an eclectic juxtaposition of materials and furnishings. All public areas feature contemporary art, including a long linear gallery that leads to the restaurant.
On the six upper floors, occasional moments reveal the original building fabric, exposing brick and timber beams to exhibit a beautifully aged and textured materiality. At the same time, three new light wells bring a refreshing natural illumination deep into the building.
