Upper East Side Townhouse
No. 2

New York, NY
In Progress
Type: Houses
This modern townhouse harmonizes with its neighbors but is clearly of this time. The composition and detailing are more austere and abstract than a traditional townhouse facade. This muted design approach lets the simple forms and high-quality materials speak for themselves. The exterior of the building features tall windows with divided panes, limestone cladding, and a zinc planter and mansard roof at the top. These elements add scale, texture, and variety to the street-facing facade.
Inside, the house is designed to balance entertaining with family life. Guests enter a paneled foyer and are guided up a sculptural staircase to a double height dining room, the house’s main entertaining space. A half flight up leads to a large bar and living room with a terrace. A half flight down leads to the kitchen, which can be partially cordoned off with a decorative metal screen. An elevated garden encourages indoor/outdoor dining.

The fourth floor contains the master suite, with a large bedroom facing the quiet rear garden, a study in the middle of the floor, and a pair of dressing rooms and the master bath. Two children’s floors above are united by a sky-lit double height game hub, encouraging active play all year round.
